Getting Started with Android

 

If you are new to Android, a good place to get started and to learn more about Android is the eLinux introduction to Android. Explore all the links on the page in order to understand what Android is about and what it means on the embedded platforms.

Diving in

Now that you know what Android is all about, let's get started with installing an actual Android distribution on your OMAP platform device.

To continue, you will need to have your OMAP Platform device and a host PC with a Linux based Operating System installed. Details on what applications to install, which Android release to use, where to find appropriate Android releases, etc will be covered next. You could also see the videos to get an idea of what needs to be done.

Using Pre-Built Binaries

  1. Download Pre-built Android binaries - Download the Android binaries from here
  2. SD Configuration - Configure a SD card
  3. Flashing Android - Copy binaries to SD Card
  4. Flashing Android on eMMC (OMAP4) - Using eMMC images for flashing (use in place of SD card)
  5. Platform Configuration - Hookup hardware connections
  6. Setup a serial terminal - Setup a terminal on host PC
  7. Booting Android - Bootup Android
